White Elephant Gifts

This year we had two lively "white elephant" gift exchanges, with lots of stealing. At the book club Christmas party we took home several nice things--a bottle of white Michigan wine with a Santa cover and a gold bow plate holder. In exchange, we unloaded a Santa tie and a holiday coffee mug. The tie is a good example of white elephant gift--something you have around the house that is not too gross, but that nobody wants.

These white elephant gift exchanges are one way to reduce clutter, but of course, you have to take home the exchanged junk--hopefully something small. For our New Year's Eve party, I wrapped up an odd, used martini glass and (maybe because it was small) it became the item to steal--at least 20 times. Nobody stole my pooping reindeer or fat butt book!

The author of the fat butt book claims there is a relationship between getting control of your clutter and learning to give up the butter. (He doesn't actually say that!) I will read more of the book and try to glean at least one good idea from it, something that will help me to continue to realize my goals, hopefully making success habitual, so that those annual New Year's resolutions become unnecessary. The book title seems to sum up my two years of blogging subjects--cleaning up my clutter and reducing my fat, butter-butt (while saving some "bread").

So with this "white elephant" book, received just before midnight on the eve of the first day of 2012, I end these two years of blogging, hoping for new and wonderful things to come my way--in the now imminent retirement years.

The other white elephant gifts--a useful pot, a jelly-bean poopin' pet and a plate holder
